Ryukyuan glass

Ryukyuan glass is made by recycling 1.8 liter sake bottles and soft drink bottles. It is said that glass production started in Okinawa about 100 years ago. Unique production methods that include the creation of glass with cracked patterns and bubble glass containing small bubbles have enhanced the popularity of Ryukyuan glass. Most Ryukyuan glass products are made using the glass blowing technique. Tokkuri (sake cups), glasses for liquor 'on the rocks' and wine glasses made of Ryukyuan glass come in many colors these days, ranging from very colorful patterns to more subtle hues. The number of artists who operate their own atelier is increasing.
